There are a lot of great resources about Russian Media. One such resources is Johnson’s Russia List which contains a variety of categories from media to politics to business and economics. I was going through the media section and noticed a number of great stories related to the online space. Some of the interesting findings I came across include:

• According to Russian e-company Yandex, the number of Russian-language e-diaries, or blogs, has grown by 2.6 times in 12 months and reached 3.1 million by late September 2007.
• Russian language blogs make up a 3% share of the total number of blogs.
• The share of Russians (who blog) is higher compared to Internet users of other nations.
• The average age of Russian bloggers is about 22 years old.
• Every day, about 7,000 blogs and 210,000 postings appear in the Russian Internet.
• Overall, Russian blogs include 120 million postings.
• Currently there are more blogs in Russian than in French, German or Portuguese, but fewer than in Spanish, Italian, Chinese, English or Japanese.

Note: As of September 2007, Technocrati.com reported that the world has roughly 111.2 million blogs. As mentioned Russia represents about 3% of this market. Blogging is still becoming popular around the world including in countries such as Russia. You can expect that as the world becomes more comfortable online, we can expect to see even more Russian bloggers online in 2008 and beyond.

According to Tech Crunch UK, Russian investor Finam has purchased 10% for $30 million. Finam estimates the number of social network users in Runet to grow 5-fold over 2007. Russian IT review site, CNews writes “Finam does not plan to expand its share in Badoo.com. However, the company does not exclude the given possibility in the future.”
